How we work at Auwerda Animal Clinic in The Hague

In order to provide your pet with the best possible care, we employ an appointments system. Medical examinations are conducted at our clinic, where we have all the required tools and equipment at our disposal. Besides, pets do not tolerate examinations at home as well. On this page, you can read more about how we work

How we work

Appointments system
Please call us during reception opening hoursto make an appointment. During the day, we are able to offer longer appointments (15 minutes) than in the evenings (10 minutes). We always request that you make a daytime appointment for more complex issues. Our assistants will conduct a pre-consultation assessment over the phone to ensure the appointment runs as smoothly as possible. Please let us know if you would like to make an appointment with a preferred vet.

If you are unable to keep your appointment
If you are unable to keep your appointment, please inform us in good time (preferably 1 day in advance). That way we can offer the appointment to someone else who needs it. If appointments are repeatedly missed, we will charge for these.

Get to know us
You are most welcome pay the practice a visit (without your pet) if you would like to meet us. You can make an appointment for this at no charge. If you have a puppy or a kitten, we offer free health checks. Breeders often require that these health checks take place within 3 days of acquiring the animal.

Advice over the phone
When giving advice over the phone, our assistants may need to confer with a vet. In such cases, they will call you back later.

Operations and dental care
Operations and dental treatments are carried out in the mornings as far as possible (drop off at 8:45 am, collect the same afternoon). We sometimes advise pre-screening your pet's blood in order to limit anaesthesia risks. Please discuss this with our assistants. Animals that have undergone surgery are always able to walk unaided when they are discharged and they are given painkillers to take home.

Euthanasia
In the unfortunate event your animal needs to be euthanised, we may be able to perform the procedure at home, provided that we can scedule in time and you do not live too far from the practice. We have a separate conservatory at our practice where you can say goodbye to your pet in private and in peace.

Emergencies
Outside of office hours, we work in partnership with ‘Kring Dierenartsen The Hague and Surroundings’ to provide an on-call service for emergencies. Please call 0900-2226333to contact the on-call vet. In the unlikely event you are unable to get through to this number, please call 0900-2222456.
